DoGPaW is an ancronym for Dogs of Goodale Park are Welcome and is a group of dog owners who want to keep Goodale Park leash-free. Goodale Park is the oldest park in the City of Columbus, Ohio and the second oldest park in the United States. Goodale Park has been listed as the Best Park in Columbus in both 2007 and 2008 by Columbus Alive! newspaper, and is the location of the annual Community Festival (ComFest).
DoGPaW has worked with the Friends of Goodale Park, the Victorian Village Society, the Harrison West Society and Columbus Recreation and Parks to collaboratively address dog issues in the park and surrounding neighborhood. These groups worked together to develop a fenced neighborhood dog park, Wheeler Park, which will be located behind the Neil Ave. Giant Eagle on Collins Ave. Construction of Wheeler Park should begin in fall 2008, with an expected opening in spring 2009.
